SCRAPBOOK

I've been working on a very personal scrapbook over the past couple of months. These are a few of my visual journaling bits, writings and paintings that I've created/collected highlighting connections to my family roots, ancestors, and my land.
Each piece caries the stories, hearts, and old memories of my past living experiences in Algeria as well as the beautiful and powerful people who I love dearly. Many of these photographs date as far back as the 1900s and capture moments that reach the 90s.

A digital series of film photos taken in Algeria framed in North African Carpets.

GLASS INVENTORY

Since the pandemic happened, everything went online and I don't have a studio to make glass anymore, I created a glass inventory in my home with a diaristic approach to my photos. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Inspired by artist Jeremy Deller, Open Bedroom, 1993 “This exhibition took place at a point in my career when I wanted to show work, but I didn’t really know where or how to show it. A lot of artists were having ‘open studio’ exhibitions at the time, but I didn’t have a studio- I was living with my parents and was working from my bedroom at this point- so I decided to stage an ‘open bedroom’ and turn the slightly embarrassing situation of still living with mum and dad in my mid-20’s into a ‘feature’. "⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In my photos I want to show significant parts of my cultural identity and family while highlighting the objects with a specific cultural tone that exudes the vibrancy of Algerian art and aesthetic.
